Franchising/Retail

Unique Opportunities

Franchising and other retail businesses provide a unique opportunity in CDC areas. Not only do they meet the needs of the residents, they provide entrepreneurial openings for area residents and create jobs. The information which will convince business to invest in a CDC area relates back to the hidden assets and disposable income discussed in the homepage. This key information - included in the CDC section of the Corporate Registry - will assist businesses to identify CDCs that meet their requirements. In turn, CDCs can identify franchisers providing services or products will meet unmet demand in their areas.

Partners

An impressive array of partners have been brought together to develop Franchising/Retail opportunities in CDC areas, including: The National Franchise Association, The National Grocers Association, and the NCB Development Bank. Many individual Franchisers have already established franchises in CDC areas, including Signorama, Blimpies and Texaco.

In addition to participating in panels and exhibiting at the two NCCED conferences each year, these partnerships reach out in other ways. For example, IFA has a nationwide series of franchise fairs which bring franchisers and potential franchisees together in specific geographic settings. This is a good opportunity for CDCs to try to bring local investors together with franchise operators. Financing

Several franchisers will assist with financing in CDC served areas. In addition, NCCED/IFA and the NCDB are developing a Franchise Equity Fund which will be available for start up franchisees.
