Financial Education Grants

Agency: American Express Foundation Deadline: March 7, 2003 Amount: $15,000-$30,000 (20 grants) Activities: Supports financial literacy programs in local and immigrant communities for small business development, micro-lending, homeownership and individuals in job-training. Visit: www.nefe.org

Women and Girls

Agency: Women’s Foundation of Minnesota. Deadline: April 1, 2003. Activities: The foundation works to aid women and girls organizing for economic, political, and social change, by providing resources and a voice for their cause. Contact: Erin@wfmn.org.

2003 Community Partnership Grants

Agency: Entergy New Orleans. Amount: Up to $1,000. Deadline: April 26, 2003. Activities: Provides for projects that positively impact education and literacy, community improvement or enrichment, healthy families, or arts and culture. Contact: Amy Stallings, (504) 670-3657.

Notice for Proposed Rule

Agency: Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Treasury. Deadline: March 11, 2003. Activities: Proposing to amend the regulation governing national bank investments that are designed primarily to promote the public welfare. Contact: Michele Meyer, Counsel, (202) 874-5090.

End Chronic Homelessness

Agency: HUD, HHS, and VA. Amount: Up to $35 million. Activities: End chronic homelessness by seeking to create a collaborative and comprehensive approach to addressing homelessness. Contact: U.S. Interagency Council on the Homeless at 1-866-450-2273.

Grants for Students

Agency: The Bollinger Foundation. Deadline: May 27, 2003. Activites: Assists families where there has been a death and surviving children. CDFI Extends Deadline

Agency: The Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund. Deadline: April 14, 2003. Activities: Extends its earlier deadline for financial assistance. Awardees must addresses community development finance needs in "Hot Zones", and/or to increase homeownership opportunities for low-income households and other populations that lack access to capitol and financial services. Small Grants to Support Research

Agency: The Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM). Deadline: March 21, 2003. Activities: Encouraging the use of the National Survey of America's Families (NSAF). An initiative of the Urban Institute, the NSAF is an important data resource for research on issues related to poverty, welfare, health care, economic development, and social and family policy. New Market Tax Credit Allocations

Agency: Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. Amount: $2.5 billion. Activities: The Fund expects to announce those community development entities that have received NMTC allocations in early March. Director Tony Brown told a House Subcommittee that it planned to make 70 awards. The largest award was $170 million and the average award was $38 million. His testimony is at www.cdfifund.gov.
